High in the mountains of northern Peru, coffee is grown on tiny family farms.

Chontalí sits among the steep ridges and humid valleys of Jaén, Cajamarca, where many producers farm less than two hectares of land at around 1,600–2,000 metres above sea level.

This is classic Peruvian speciality coffee: predominantly Caturra, Bourbon and Typica, fully washed to produce a clean, balanced cup that lets the coffee itself do the talking.

The coffee is sourced through Falcon Coffees in Jaén, where small deliveries from individual producers are analysed and cupped as they arrive. Farmers receive a same-day offer based on the physical quality and cup score of their coffee, with payment made by instant bank transfer.

It’s a simple idea we really like: better coffee should mean better prices for the people who grow it.

For us, Chontalí is everything we love about an everyday Peruvian coffee — sweet, comforting, chocolatey and ridiculously easy to drink.
