Wait… did I say pineapple? Yes, I sure did.
And the reason we’re here is thanks to the women’s farmer groups who helped make this coffee great.
Led by Samuel Sihombing, a former pastor turned community leader, Poda takes a different approach to Sumatran coffee. Farmers are organised into groups that receive agronomy training, financial management support, and access to community savings and loan funds — breaking cycles of debt owed to middlemen. Poda buys directly, paying above market rate, while women from the surrounding area handle all of the sorting.
In the cup, the wet-hulled process adds a wild, earthy edge. Cherries are hand-picked, fermented for 24 hours, and transformed into a flavour that’s bold, complex, and just a little smoky — like pineapple fresh off the grill.
